Hi everyone,

in case of the Charles University, it is highly questionable whether it can participate in the kind of project you propose. True, what Bernd wrote is right: supervisors are absent from the process of PhD creation, oftern not available for any kind of help, usually not even from the field theses has been related to, students are completely on their own, get no feed-back, might waste yers on something, which should have been stopped at the beginning, they lose orientation, etc. In addition, state-funded system is very "generous", one can study for 8 years.

But: the system is funded by the state, supervisors, atlhough inactive, are also paid for the job and individual departments obtain finances according to number of PhD students and PhD graduates. Now, it depends on sources you have in mind but in this case it would be clearly about double-funding for the same thing.

However, this is not to say that such help Bernd is now providing voluntarily is not necessary. On the contrary. But in case of state-funded universities, this might be a problem from the point of view of agencies allocating finances for the purpose.
